Trailing Off in the Trailer Park ~ By Phil and Lindsey

Trailer Park Lounge
271 W. 23rd Street, New York, NY 10011
Voted one of the Top 5 kitschiest restaurants in America by the Food Network, Trailer Park Lounge packs enough intrigue (and generous beverage options) to warrant your visit.  But is it a formidable date spot?

As the self-proclaimed “place to meet your next ‘x’” might suggest… probably not. While some may argue that the carefully curated cornucopia of junkyard treasure is a great conversation starter, we found it a bit overwhelming. Dimly lit and embarrassingly loud (embarrassing if you enjoy eavesdropping), you might find yourself spending more time watching the couple sitting in the removed patent leather car seat than your date. Although for you OKCupiders, this might come as a blessing in disguise when your date arrives 15 years older than her college cheerleading headshot.

While built as a temple to all things trashy trailer, the transformative effort comes to a screeching halt once it gets time to answer for the check. A trailer park experience requires trailer park pricing! We recommend coming to the Trailer Park Lounge for happy hour (hey, who can say no to discount ridiculously strong margaritas and champagne in a can?)

As far as food goes, come here expecting bar food. Once you get hungry after some PBRs, the mediocre cuisine does the trick, but don’t expect to score points on a date with this menu.

Ladies First:
“The Trailer Park is definitely one of those ‘it's worth trying' places in New York, if just for the kitsch factor. I agree with my counterpart, this is definitely not somewhere I would go if I was trying to impress someone. Trailer Park Lounge is great for grabbing after work drinks (AWESOME Happy Hour Special) or ‘getting margs with the girls on a Tuesday night,’ but be careful because one sip leads to ten and ten leads to a hangover the next day.”

Gentleman’s Disclosure
“Definitely not trying to trash this trailer; I just didn’t find it date worthy. If you are looking for a spot to hang with your lady AND the fellas, the beverages here will quench that thirst… during happy hour. Being a Texan, I was a bit confused when my fajita tacos arrived as the love child of a burrito and a Philly cheese steak… ”
