I Prithee Thy Lendeth Thine Ear ~ By Phil and Lindsey

Shakespeare in the Park
June 5-30, July 23-25 at the Delacorte Theater

Who would have thought that one of the hottest tickets in New York City was… FREE?! Tourists and Locals alike line up beginning at dawn in desperate hopes to get two tickets apiece to this often star-studded gem.

Past performers have included Al Pacino (he will probably be yelling), Meryl Streep (probably as some English woman you wish was your grandma), and Anne Hathaway (I dreamed a dreammmmm).

This is a date night home run grand slam!
Even if you don’t remember a thing about Shakespeare (or believe he was real…) the venue and performance atmosphere is enough to make a believer out of anyone.
Subject to the perils of weather, this open-air theater is buried among the often deceptively thick woods of Central Park West, which actually makes you feel like you are watching the play in ye olden times (Now if only they served some mead…)

In the world center of fashion, don’t think you can show up fashionably late and get away with it. This is a strict affair, which really elevates the private (read: priv-ett) nature of the theater. Also, leave your cell phone in your pocket, they will insta-jump-on-you if they think you are instagramming the performance. Editors Note: I may, in fact, be the first recorded attempt at making Instagram into a verb. Prithee pardon.

Ladies First:
“Shakespeare has definitely been on my list of things to do in NYC. I pretty much think it’s on any New Yorker's or theatre lover's list to be honest. It was a fantastic experience and one that I recommend for everyone. Take note, though, there is no food in Shakespeare’s park. The concession stand offers quick snacks, but I highly recommend dining before or after in the UWS (Upper West Side for you folks not from around here.)”

Gentleman’s Disclosure:
“Look, I’m going to be honest with you, I had no idea what was being talked about for half of the play. Olde English isn’t really one of my commonly used languages, but beyond the prithees and thy thines I was able to laugh at Shakespeare’s oft dirty humor and witty wisecracks. In the land of 60 dollar nosebleed theater seats, it’s nice to have a romantic theater night for free. Between the cool night air and the fireflies, I might as well have walked on stage and been Romeo.”
