Battle is just a politically correct term. We don’t endorse war here at New York Minute Magazine, unless you are coming after one of our own.
But Lord knows it sure feels like it here at our office (yeah, that’s right, our 22nd floor office.)
You think Mitt and Barack are going at it? Try comparing burgers around our office and you’ll see grown men and women cry.
Before we get into the meat (see what we did there?), let’s be clear: Everyone loves these burgers. If they don’t, they aren’t American (which is fine…I guess.) But every genre needs a chart-topper, and these two are neck and neck.
We (Lindsey and Phil) personally prefer Shake Shack. Our Editor-in-Chief, Sarah, hands down prefers Burger Joint.
We’ll let you decide.
We are Shake Shackin’. Who could vote against a four-ounce patty that is ground daily and consistently tastes fresh? We, mostly Lindsey, love the buttered and toasted potato bun that hugs the burger (not too much bread) which doesn’t feel too full after eating it. We, really Phil, also love the burger blend and the fact that even the vegetables (Roma Tomatoes FTW!) are crispy and fresh.
On the other side of our office, Sarah loves the TLC that goes into a Burger Joint burger. Charbroiled (vs. on the flat top), she feels that her burger is authentic versus the “mass produced Shake Shack burgers.” It’s a simple burger without the frills. This is the burger that brings you back to summer backyard barbecues.
While we could bring Burger Joint’s thin, crispy fries, or Shake Shack’s delicious shakes, we feel that the it’s best just to leave it to the burger.
Meat and bun, no frills and thrills.
So… who do you side with? Let us know in the comments section or tweet us at @NYMinuteMag.
Ladies First:
“Burger Joint is impressive. This is the burger place that is low-key enough that you don’t have to change your outfit for, but it's incognito enough that only people in the know can find it. Hidden behind the red curtain in the Le Parker Meridien, with the only distinction being the floating neon burger in the hallway, this burger speakeasy is a great conversation starter. However, be warned and stop at the ATM on the way because it’s a cash-only joint, you don’t want to be ‘THAT’ person at the counter. ”

Gentleman’s Disclosure: “I’m all for chill dates with a chill price, which is why a picnic in MSP with some Shake Shack is a solid NYC fixture. While you would never take your date to Micky D’s (If you are… good luck keeping her!) Shake Shack offers solid food, great ambiance, and a sweet treat. Insider Tip: Shake it up and leave the park and grab a table on Broadway under the shadows of the Flatiron Building and the Empire State Building.”
Single ShackBurger (cheese included): $4.55
Burger Joint Cheeseburger: $7.35
