Apps to Reward You for Exercising

Next time you feel completely unmotivated to accomplish your workout routine, use these apps to help you get moving!

Sometimes, it can be very difficult to get yourself motivated to exercise, even if you keep telling yourself that you need to get in shape or shed a few pounds. You might know that you would feel better and healthier if you worked out, but even this knowledge won’t always get your butt in gear. Sometimes you just have to give yourself some extra incentive for working out, or maybe find a way to reward yourself afterward. What if there were apps that could do just that?

Here are three apps that will encourage you to exercise and help you get the most out of your workout:

EarthMiles is an app that clocks the number of miles you accomplish during a workout and then allows you to redeem them for discounts at different stores. To get started, all you have to do is download the app, connect your phone to your favorite workout apps, and start moving. The more you move, the more “earthmiles” you will accumulate to earn rewards from various health and fitness brands.

According to the app’s website, “It’s simple. With air miles you are rewarded every time you fly, with earthmiles you are rewarded every time you walk, run, or cycle. You can find free goodies and save on discounts while discovering new exciting brands that want to support you in your quest to be healthy. There are vegan and plant-based foods, healthy snacks, free-from options, fitness classes, gear, kit, clothing, plus everything wellness and mindfulness. Think of it as a little extra motivation to chuck the bus and move more!”

Earthmiles is free for download and available on iOS and Android devices.

Developed by a team of Yale economists, StickK is an app that motivates you to exercise by threatening to donate to a charity – specifically, one that would make your skin crawl – if you do not complete your goal. All you have to do is set a goal, choose a time frame, select a referee to keep tabs on your progress, and lay your money on the line. If you hit your goal, you get to keep your money. If not, you donate to a charity that you would absolutely hate to support.

According to the app’s description, “StickK is a free web-based service created by behavioral economists at Yale University to help people accomplish their goals. No matter what your goal is – losing weight, quitting smoking, watching less TV or exercising more often – stickK can help you achieve it.”

StickK is free for download and available on iOS and Android devices.

Plus 3 Network:

Plus 3 Network is yet another app that can track your fitness and reward you for your activities. However, this app will convert the points you earn into dollars to help you donate money to a charity of your choice. Eligible activities include anything from weight training to Zumba classes or physical labor.

According to its website, “Plus3 uniquely blends personal rewards and company-sponsored charitable giving, improving the one thing that matters most in corporate wellness: consistent participation. You’ll love the results: happier teams, improved health and wellbeing trajectories, and boosted productivity. Getting started is easy, and we’re with you every step of the way. Within days, your employees can start benefiting from our simple, easy, and fun-to-use web and mobile platform.”

Plus 3 is free for download and available on Android devices.
