Amateur Food Porn

The first thoughts that stream through my mind in the morning are what food creations are going to be in my stomach today.

My eyes are still closed and I’m rummaging through my refrigerator. I’m thinking, “Do I have country gravy, cheddar cheese, prosciutto, a biscuit, and some eggs? What can I make to satisfy my hunger pains?” This has been every morning since I moved out of my parents’ house about six years ago.

My love for food started at a young age. My parents would take me to five star restaurants starting at the age of five. I was never a picky eater, for which I am thankful.

I tried frog legs by the age of ten and loved them! Escargot by age twelve, among other strange inventive foods. My parents thought it was important to expand our horizons, and one way was trying different out of the ordinary food. This is when my love for food started.

That is where food porn comes into play. When I went out to restaurants, cooked at home, or someone cooked for me, I would take a picture of it. That way when I looked at the picture I would remember the taste and smell of the delicious plate.

Food to me is sexy, mouth watering, and on my mind almost all the time. The food porn fascination started about three years ago when I started cooking a lot at home. I experimented with food I had never heard of at the grocery store. I watched TV shows like Iron Chef, Barefoot Contessa, and simply the Food Network all the time.  The Food Network made me want to cook using new and unusual products.

I ventured out to different towns finding small markets with specialty food with the ingredients in a language I did not know. It was fun and adventurous to not know what I was getting into. I have over 600 pictures of food stored on my computer. The goal was to start a cookbook, but instead I started a website, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter all dedicated to the beautiful food I consume on a daily basis.

My love for food comes from my upbringing.  I watched my mother cook dinner for us almost every night, always offering my help of course! Going on a trip to the grocery store with my mother was my favorite.

I was constantly throwing stuff in the cart, while my mother would secretly take some of it out. I became fascinated with cooking, spices, herbs, and seasonings. I was an avid Ramen noodle eater all my life. I spritzed it up by using alternative seasonings, butter, garlic, and vegetables, to make it taste better. I cooked recipes that I found for my family for dinner instead of my parents cooking. In turn, I did not have to clean the dishes!

That was a rule in my family; if you cook you do not have to clean! So that was a great motivation for me to start cooking at a young age. Plus, I loved the look on their faces when they tried anything that I made.

Los Angeles has some of the greatest restaurants I have ever experienced! My goal was to eat at every single one of them, and take food porn pictures to share with everyone! One of my favorite (and most expensive) places to eat is Nobu.

Nobu is a Japanese restaurant located near the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, CA. Their menu consists of Waygu Beef Tacos, Lobster Ceviche, Salmon Tartar with Caviar, Creamy Spicy Snow Crab, Black Cod with Miso, and many more delicious appetizers, entrees, and desserts. This menu is incredible and fits the taste of any mood. Every year one or two of my sisters picks this restaurant as her birthday dinner. I have always had a pleasant experience here, and recommend this place to anyone.

My all time favorite food is eggs in general. I eat about three to four eggs on a daily basis. Whether it is poached, scrambled, over-easy, over-medium, fried, or hard-boiled. An egg is a food that you can experiment with and put in almost any dish.

I am in love with Eggs Benedict. The Hollandaise sauce poured over pouched eggs, a thick slice of Canadian bacon, and a toasted English muffin – makes my mouth water just thinking about it. A fried egg on anything makes it better. I put eggs in salads, burritos, hamburgers, on chicken, on top of cottage cheese, the list goes on!

A picture can say a thousand words and make you salivate like Pavlov’s dogs. Bon appetit!
