Being a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist in soccer and two-time Bronze medalist in the Women’s World Cup is a huge accomplishment alone, but it doesn’t stop there for Angela Hucles. Hucles is a retired American professional soccer player and is currently the Women’s Sports Foundation president
. Adding to the impressive list, she is a public speaker and founded Empowerment Through Sport.
The Women’s Sports Foundation was founded in 1974 by tennis legend Billie Jean King and is dedicated to creating leaders by ensuring all girls have access to
athletics. King is not only an athlete but an influential social activist and the first woman to have a major sporting venue named in her honor, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. In 2008, Hucles was chosen for the Women’s Sports Foundation Athlete Advisory Board.
Empowering Women in Business holds a conference that allows women the opportunity to advance their career and grow their businesses. W
omen can expect to gain newfound inspiration, a sense of achievement, and a greater business network. Hucles will be this year’s keynote speaker on Thursday, March 23rd, 2017. With over 30 years of experience in the industry and her creation of Empowerment Through Sport, Hucles is a perfect fit to speak at this conference.
Hucles’ sports leadership and wellness lifestyle brand helps collegiate and elite level athletes navigate the career transition process and helps young athletes develop confidence and leadership skills that benefit them in all areas of life. This is allowing and encouraging women to utilize their full potential without limiting themselves.
Hucles knows what is takes to compete and stay focused at the highest levels to achieve success. She has overcome obstacles and has learned how to get back on the right track when things do not always go as planned. Her own experience and achievements are admirable to say the least.
In an interview with SheNetwork, Hucles spoke on her perception of leadership, stating, “What I love about leadership is that it doesn’t have to look like what we might think it does. I think most people imagine a leader to be someone who is extremely vocal, maybe even aggressive, and someone who takes center stage.”
Hercules continued, “I love leadership because it comes in so many different forms. It’s about identifying in yourself what qualities you possess that can help you to be the most effective leader possible.”
Hucles demonstrates to all that there is not a specific mold you must fit in order to be a successful leader. Hucles herself found her leadership to be unique because she did not view herself as that “traditional” leader on the field.
She said, “What made me different was that I was always a leader to our team outside the game.” She embraced that and used her unique leadership qualities to the fullest.
