Someday, Someday Maybe is written by actress Lauren Graham who is best known for her role as Lorelai on Gilmore Girls and Sarah on Parenthood. Graham has had a successful career in both TV and film, so why she wanted to risk her reputation as a novelist I do not know; but I’m glad she did.
Someday, Someday Maybe is a story of a young actress trying to make it in our beloved New York City in the ’90s. You might be tempted to think this is a concealed autobiographical book, but you’d be wrong. Though I’m sure Graham used some of her experiences, it’s apparent Franny, our heroine, is her own person.
Franny is witty and lovely and we root for her, which makes us love Graham more. She struggles through her ’20s as we all do / did with charm and perseverance while surrounded by a cast of characters who help her be the person she should be. You will love some of her sidekicks while some will simply surprise you.
Graham proves she’s one of us! She develops characters well and knows how to keep us on the ride. I love any story that displays New York City as an ever-present character.
We’re busy New Yorkers. A New York Minute is only 45 seconds, so when we recommend something to you, we want you to know how much of your time it’s worth.
