I really miss the ’90s. In fact, there’s talk here at NYMM of making the ’90s video a daily thing, rather than weekly. An injection of good music can liven up one’s day. But I don’t just miss the music; I miss the videos. Back in the day, you’d watch MTV for the videos. They were THAT good! There was a channel just for them and the only reality TV was The Real World and Road Rules. Of course there was that not-as-attractive cousin, VH1.
This week’s song is a morsel of goodness.Take two teen queens and pin them against each other with a boy in the middle…it’s a story as old as time. Not only do Monica and Brandy have amazing voices, but this clever colab made this a song we wanted to sing to every single time. But the video takes this song to another planet. The video embodies the ’90s fashion and cinematography and makes me cry for the teen queens who now think it’s talent to ride a wrecking ball.
