Education can often be taken for granted by students who had the privilege to attend mandatory primary 
school during their childhood. Unfortunately, many underage girls in India suffer from the inability to receive an education, as they are forced into childhood prostitution. Fortunately, Free a Girl Movement has made strides to put an end to this suffering.
Free a Girl Movement’s main objective is to rescue underage girls from prostitution. According to the movement’s website, “Besides supporting the rescue and rehabilitation of victims of forced prostitution, we provide them with access to education, vocational training, medical care, and trauma counselling.”
On April 6, the movement made a huge step to save the “estimated 1.2 million children working in brothels against their will.” The movement decided to directly attack the cause of the perpetual system of underage prostitution, noting that “in 2015 there were only 55 cases that led to convictions in the whole of India.” To punish the perpetrators for aiding the system of child prostitution in India, Free a Girl Movement has decided to open the School for Justice.
According to the School for Justice, “[It] is more than a physical school; it’s an entire programme. We’re collaborating with one of the best law universities in India to guarantee a first-rate education and the opportunity to become successful lawyers.” This school does more than simply provide education for the young girls. It specifically provides the girls with a law background.
With their new law backgrounds, the rescued girls will be trained to prosecute the people who previously held them captive as prostitutes, should they want to. Not only does the initiative aim to rescue the girls, but it also gives them the opportunity to exact justice upon the people who trapped them in their former situations.
This year, the first class of the School for Justice consists of 19 young girls who were saved from their situations but are inspired to receive an education by the fact that their perpetrators still roam free. According to the School for Justice, “These girls are passionate about changing the system that allows these crimes to happen over and over again.”
Overall, Free a Girl Movement focuses on “creating awareness about the problem of child prostitution and the impunity of offenders of child prostitution.” One of the main objectives of this movement is to shine a light on the issue and to acknowledge that the criminals involved in such cases are rarely punished. In addition, the movement aims to gain local support to help fight the crime of underage prostitution.
Anyone in the world has an opportunity to help the cause, put an end to the crime of child prostitution, and serve justice to the perpetrators. Anyone can show their support for the School of Justice by raising awareness. Also, people can choose to donate any amount of money to the school to help the girls succeed in their pursuit for justice and education.
Whether by word-of-mouth or donation, anyone can help Free a Girl Movement as it continues to free thousands of girls in India and to educate them to serve justice to the criminals that perpetuate the system of adolescent prostitution.
