Can you smell that? Love is in the air. No, not romantic love. Valentine’s Day is overrated. At New York Minute Magazine, we’re celebrating Galentine’s Day! While you may not be able to hit the clubs to try and forget how single you are, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate with your girls from the comfort of your own home.
Charcuterie board & wine
Okay, okay. Call us basic. But there’s a reason why girls love charcuterie. It’s classy, it’s delicious and preparing one truly makes any day seem like a celebration. Perfect for sharing, charcuterie boards and wine are the perfect combo for any girls’ night. Also, since charcuterie and wine bring out the fancy in everyone, why not dress up and put on makeup just to make it feel like you’re on a balcony in Paris? Sometimes, the best way to celebrate a fake holiday is to pretend like it’s a real one.
Karaoke
There’s nothing like singing the pain away of being alone on Valentine’s Day. This Wireless Bluetooth Microphone connects to your phone so you can sing with background music without owning an actual karaoke machine. Belt your heart out to some bad bitch music and pretend like you’re Ariana Grande!
Self-care night
If you don’t have a significant other to celebrate Valentine’s with, why not channel that love into yourself? For the perfect spa night, we recommend lighting a candle, putting on a facemask and doing your nails (don’t sleep on cuticle care!). You don’t need to break the bank and go to a real spa to practice self-care. You can have the same relaxing effect at home with friends for a fraction of the cost.
Rom-com marathon
While any rom-com works on Galentine’s, we recommend throwing it back to your favorite 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s classics. Nothing beats cuddling and watching Pretty in Pink, Clueless and Sixteen Candles with your best friends. Snuggling up with cozy blankets, a bottle of wine and some popcorn may just be the perfect night in.
For anti-Valentine’s movie options, we recommend John Tucker Must Die, Someone Great and The First Wives Club.
Secret Cupid
For all you ladies wishing you were receiving presents this Valentine’s, set up a gift exchange with your girlfriends! Instead of Secret Santa, call it Secret Cupid. Show your love for your besties through gift-giving. Whether it be chocolates, matching necklaces or house slippers, this is the perfect opportunity to show your friends how much they mean to you.
Game night
For any girls’ night, I always reach for the game For the Girls by What Do You Meme?. This light-hearted card game is sure to have you and your friends laughing so hard you can’t breathe. If drinking is more up your alley, Buzzed by What Do You Meme? is sure to get you and your friends tipsy.
If you’re looking to get to know your girls in a more intimate and personal way, we suggest trying We’re Not Really Strangers. In this game, you can find thought-provoking questions that probably wouldn’t come up in your normal day-to-day conversations with your friends. This can be a great way to deepen your friendships and keep the feeling of intimacy on Galentine’s alive.
