George Clooney may have been the famous bachelor, but Amal Clooney, his wife of almost three years, is the real catch – and George agrees.
Amal Alamuddin, now known as Amal Clooney, is an international law and human rights lawyer. Her clients include Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, the former prime minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko, and Egyptian-Canadian journalist Mohamed Famy, just to name a few. Amal attended the NYU School of Law after finishing at Oxford and is now a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers in London.
George Clooney admits he chased Amal for a while because he was fascinated by her. On dating Amal, Clooney said in an interview, “I knew when I met her that she was super extraordinary [sic]. I wondered if I would ever get the chance to date her. We were friends for a while, and luckily she said yes.”
Clooney knows Amal’s work attests to her brilliance, and he is more than proud of it. He has half-joked that at the dinner table, some of the stories she tells feel like they are beyond his ability to fully comprehend.
“She’s an amazing human being. And, she’s caring. And she happens to be one of the smartest 
people I’ve ever met. And she’s got a great sense of humor,” Clooney answers when asked why he fell in love with Amal.
Harper’s Bazaar mentions in a piece about the couple that when questioned about arguments, George responded that they resolve them by arm wrestling because “…that is my only chance of winning anything with her, because if it’s an intellectual battle, I would lose. She’s the smart one in the family.”
Clooney has never been happier, and together, Amal and George make a beautiful couple. Clooney not only understands the amazing nature of his wife’s work and accomplishments, but he gushes about them, proudly acknowledges them, and stands in awe of her.
Clooney may not agree to labeling them a “power couple,” but he understands that Amal is the reason the term so aptly applies.
