Gift-giving with a Spark of Creativity

Struggling to think of gift ideas for someone’s upcoming birthday? If you are up for a little DIY, look no further! Here are three sweet ideas for gifts you can make on your own that are sure to brighten someone’s day.

Memory Box
As seen on the hit comedy Bridesmaids, a memory box is a decorated shoe box, or some container of the like, that contains symbols of past memories with a close friend. These memories can include photographs, trinkets from favorite stores, quote-mugs, and movie ticket stubs!

Get creative with your box and adorn it with sparkles or beads, stuffing it with colorful fluff to get a more “heavenly” look. This gift is sure to evoke some great memories for you and its receiver, while also creating a wonderful new one.

Distance Eraser Photo
Have a friend who attends a different college or has moved away? Close the distance with this thoughtful gift.

Cut out a map of your state and hers, and write your first initial in each respective city. Then, glue a piece of colored string between your two initials, connecting the two. Frame two photos of the two of you in a diagonal fashion, and then place your state-connector in the empty spaces! This gift is super easy to make, while still sweet and meaningful.

Playing Card Album
This present is very thoughtful and will always put a smile on someone’s face. All you need are binder clasps, playing cards, and red tape!

Put the cards in order and tape the center of the back design. On the tape, write down memories, things you like about your friend, and jokes you both share. Brainstorming may take some time, but the payoff will be worth it, and the neat little stack of cards will always serve as a pick-me-up for whoever is lucky enough to receive it.

Happy gifting! Spark your creative side and give a gift that you will be proud of.
