When life gives you lemons—or a heat wave—you make lemonade. For this week’s set of DIYs, we’ll be making delicious summer drinks to keep you cool and refreshed on the hottest summer days.
As creator Vanessa Beaty puts it, “blackberry limeade is as pretty to look at as it is delicious to drink.” This recipe requires blackberries, sugar, fresh lime juice, and a few extra blackberries or lime wedges to serve as a garnish.
Blend your blackberries with water, strain out the pulp, and then add and mix in all of the remaining ingredients into a pitcher. Cool your concoction in the fridge and enjoy!
Ice Cube Hack
Ever wanted to keep a drink cool without having to worry about it being watered down by ice cubes melting into it? This little trick is a sure fire way to keep your favorite drinks cool and flavorful! The trick works with juice, iced coffee, iced tea – pretty much anything.
Pour your chosen drink into an ice cube tray and let freeze. Then, whenever you crave a cold juice, iced tea, or even iced coffee, the identically-formulated ice cubes will keep your drink icy, flavorful, and will even provide a small refill as they melt!
These slushies are easy to make and are perfectly refreshing. For this drink, you’ll need 1.5 to 2 cups of your choice of fruit, (strawberries usually work well with this recipe), 1 cup of ice, and ¼ cup of sparkling water.
Chop up your fruit and add it into a high-powered blender with your cup of ice and sparkling water. You can even add a little mint or lemon juice for some extra flavor.
Blend your ingredients on high until everything is blended and your drink has a consistency similar to a slushie. Add more ice or fruit as preferred, and remember that more watery fruits like watermelon might affect the amount of ice needed.
After this, just pour your slushie into a cup and enjoy this perfect treat in the sunshine! Some ideas for slushie add-ins, provided by creator Gina Eykemans, include lemon, honey, ginger, or vanilla.
We hope you enjoy your summer with a delicious chilled drink in hand. Cheers!
