Have a Safer Night Out with These Apps

For women, feeling safe and secure in any situation can be very powerful. Sometimes you might feel unsafe walking down a sketchy street. You may feel worried that a night out or a date might not go quite as planned and feel safer having a backup plan. You might simply call your mom or a friend to talk to you while you walk home or to give you an out when your date goes sideways. Now there are several apps that can make it easier to get immediate help, or simply give you that much-needed feeling of safety.

Here are three apps that are bound to give you some peace of mind while you are out and about:

React Mobile:

React Mobile is a personal safety app that pairs with a Bluetooth panic button you can press to quickly send out an emergency alert. The panic button allows you to quietly activate an alert without having to unlock your phone, which can be especially important if there is an intruder in your home.

According to the app’s description, “React Mobile is a simple yet powerful personal safety solution that is transforming the way people call for help in emergencies. The React Mobile safety system is the fastest way to reach a wide network of family and friends when it matters most. Do you ever worry about your safety? Want to protect your loved ones? React Mobile keeps you connected and secure whenever you feel un-safe. Share your location with trusted contacts and return home safely.”

React Mobile is free for download on both iOS and Android devices.

Kitestring isn’t exactly an app. The program checks up on you by sending you text messages and does not require you to download anything. The program works similarly to Companion and sends alerts to emergency contacts when you miss a check-in. This service is ideal for times when you are going on a date with someone you don’t know that well or are walking through a potentially unsafe neighborhood.

According to the website, “Whether you’re meeting up with a stranger or just taking a midnight stroll, give Kitestring a heads up. Kitestring checks up on you with a simple text message. Reply to the message to check in. If you don’t check in, Kitestring sends your emergency contacts a personalized alert message. And you don’t even need a smartphone. Best of all, it’s totally free.”

My SafetiPin:

My SafetiPin is a personal safety app that seems to fly under the radar. The app works similarly to ReactMobile in that you can invite friends and family to track you while you walk home or when you enter an unsafe location. Instead of stopping there, the app takes safety to a whole new level by showing you the safest and fastest routes home. You can also view the safety scores of certain areas and pin locations as safe or unsafe.

According to the app’s description,My SafetiPin is a Personal Safety app that helps you to take safer decisions, based on the safety score of an area. Get alerts when you are in an unsafe location. As long as the app is running in the background, it checks if you have entered an unsafe location. You will receive an alert and can choose to invite friends or family to track you. Find the safest route. With this Women Safety app, you can view alternate routes from one place to another, and select the safest route. It will then transfer control to Google maps so you can reach your destination safely.”

My SafetiPin is free for download and available on both iOS and Android devices.
