Our hair goes through a lot on the daily – straighteners, blow dryers, hair-tie tangles. To help treat our hair, NYMM has compiled some DIYs that are sure to rejuvenate your locks. Bonus: the ingredients will most likely all be found in your fridge!
Avocado Hair Treatment
We’ve all vaguely heard of this one, so let’s use it to our benefit. Avocado is well known as one of nature’s superfoods, so it’s no surprise that its benefits apply to hair as well. According to Hello Glow, “its oils and proteins will smooth and moisturize your locks without weighing down fine hair.”
For this treatment, you’ll need to mash up half an avocado and add a few drops of peppermint essential oil, although the oil is only optional for aroma therapy. If your hair is very thick and you don’t think it will be weighed down, you can also add egg yolk.
Shampoo your hair, rinse, and then squeeze out the water. After this, apply a coat of the avocado to your hair. Sit for fifteen minutes with your greenish hairdo, and then rinse. Hello Glow’s creator says that her hair “came out super soft – not flat or greasy. And the added scent made sitting around with green goop on your head much more pleasant.”
Coconut Oil Hair Treatment
Is there anything coconut oil can’t do? Use it sparingly on your hair, though, as the oil is heavy and can weigh down fine or thin hair. Take a tablespoon of it and apply to the ends of dampened hair. If the oil is solid, Hello Glow says to microwave it a bit before use. Another tip the blog mentions for readers with very dry hair is keeping the oil on overnight and shampooing it out in the morning.
What’s more, Hair Loss Revolution’s article argues that coconut oil can be used to prevent hair loss by “protecting keratin, reducing inflammation, and cleaning and protecting the scalp.” Read more about how to use it to reduce hair damage here!
Banana + Olive Oil Hair Treatment
Interesting combo, excellent results. According to Hello Glow, bananas are great for your hair! Mix a banana with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and mash until the banana is pureed like a smoothie. Massage the mix into your hair and leave it in for thirty minutes. After your timer buzzes, you’ll be able to enjoy softer hair that has just benefited from olive oil’s natural moisturizing abilities.
Hair’s a shout-out (had to) to our hair for enduring our methods. If yours has been getting a bit unruly lately (or you just feel like treating yourself), we’re sure these treatments will reap gorgeous results!
