Last-Minute NYC, February Edition

The last weekend of February is upon us! To enjoy this brilliant weather and savor the last days of the Valentine month, here are some handpicked happenings to enjoy in NYC, courtesy of NYMM.

Hip Hop Fridays
In the mood to dance all night? Hip Hop Fridays at the Anthem Nightclub at Tropicana opens its doors at 11 p.m. and keeps the music going until 5 a.m. Just call to be placed on the guest list and kick off your Friday!

Starless Dreams Film Premiere Weekend
Movie night! The Cinema Guild presents Starless Dreams, a film that The Village Voice dubbed “extraordinary.” On this first weekend of the premiere date, come and enjoy the critically-acclaimed documentary about young teenagers sharing quarters in a rehabilitation center on the outskirts of Tehran, Iran. The New York Times calls it “a heartbreaking work.” Don’t forget your tissues!

The Present at Barrymore Theater
Want to have a celebrity-sighting? The Guardian calls Cate Blanchett and Richard Roxburgh’s chemistry “electrifying,” in The Present, a story about desire, relationships, and denial. Presented at the Barrymore Theatre on Friday, February 24th, starting at 7:30, discount tickets range from $59 to $99, and provide a fun night out seated feet away from an Oscar-winning actress.

Ain’t Misbehavin’
At a discount price of only $13, the rambunctious and humorous songs of Fats Waller can be heard at the Harlem Repertory Theatre on February 25th. The show starts at 7 p.m. Fun fact: The theater company itself was founded by actor-turned-professor Keith Lee Grant.

Brunch Cruise around Manhattan
For a fancy and delicious afternoon, check out the Around Manhattan Brunch Cruise. This cruise offers a little under three hours of gorgeous Manhattan views in a classic 1920s yacht. A buffet brunch is provided along with a complimentary drink, setting sail from Chelsea Piers (Pier 62) on February 25th, at 10 a.m. Discount tickets start at $69.

Science and Magic
Are you a science buff? Come and see a physics demonstrator from Rutgers University perform stunning feats in That Physics Show at the Elektra Theatre, running from February 25th to May 28th. A few of the components of this show include burning hydrogen and bright laser lights, sparking your Saturday for $32.

A Spirited History of Drinking
Drinks and a show? A ticket to The Imbiblea widely-acclaimed and lively performance of the history of alcohol – will buy you three craft cocktails as you enjoy the comic retelling of the history of spirits at New World Stages on February 26th. It’s safe to say that these spirits will raise your spirits.

New York Dance Festival
Get reserved seats to enjoy displays of ballroom, Latin, rhythm, and other dance styles at the New York Dance Festival in the Grand Ballroom of the Roosevelt Hotel. This festival sashays into its final night on the final Sunday of February.
