Millie Bobby Brown Uses Her Shaved Head to Uplift Other Girls

The 13-year-old British actress Millie Bobby Brown, who is best known for her role as Eleven in the Netflix original series Stranger Things, expressed her fondness for her shaved head across various social media platforms on January 14th.

“I miss my bald head. Shaving your head is so empowering. You don’t need hair to be beautiful. You are beautiful with or without. I learnt that, too,” Millie tweeted.

For those of you who have never seen the hit show, the Stranger Things plot circulates around Eleven, a powerful, young girl who has been treated like a lab rat for her entire life. Eleven’s buzzcut is prevalent in the first season, while in the second season it is more grown out, representing the time that has elapsed between the escape from her troubled past and the present.

Millie posted a video of the haircut that changed her life to Instagram and Twitter.

“The day I shaved my head was the most empowering moment of my whole life. The last strand of hair cut off was the moment my whole face was on show and I couldn’t hide behind my hair like I used to. … I realized: now I have a job to do, and that is to inspire other girls that your image or exterior part is not what I think is important. What I find important is caring, loving, and inspiring other girls,” Millie wrote.

With her mature outlook on life and desire to inspire and lift-up other women through her own experiences, it is no wonder Millie has captured the hearts of millions of viewers worldwide. Millie’s tweets have amassed over 37,000 retweets, 240,000 likes, and 3,000 comments, and many women shared their stories on how Eleven/Millie’s shaved head inspired and empowered them.

“15 years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer and my hair fell out in clumps,” replied one Twitter user. “The most empowering moment of my life was when I shaved it all off and took control! Thank you for rocking your bald head and proving that bald is beautiful!”

“Shaving my head was one of the coolest experiences of my life! Felt like such a badass,” replied another.

Many other girls, young and old alike, shared pictures of themselves with freshly-shaved heads, dressed as Eleven, with similar words of inspiration and praise for the young actress.

“You’re doing your job better than anyone. So many girls and women feel better because of your words and actions, even I have more self confidence because of you. You taught me that being beautiful isn’t about looking like everyone else, it’s about looking unique,” said another.

This Twitter user’s reaction is emblematic of the overall reception women had to Millie’s self-love posts. Millie is proving to be a powerful force in both the acting world and the world of feminism and women’s empowerment, and we can’t wait to see what she does next!

What if you are not aloud to shave your head?
