New Year, New You, New Journal

Jack London once said, “Keep a notebook. Travel with it, eat with it, sleep with it. Slap into it every stray thought that flutters up into your brain. Cheap paper is less perishable than gray matter. And lead pencil markings endure longer than memory.”

Journaling is a great way to capture moments of time. The act of writing itself is almost freeing, especially when you can write anything you want to for as long, or as little, as you wish. The best part about it is that no one but you will ever read what you wrote. Keeping track of a physical journal and making sure you sit down and write in it can be difficult, but what if your journal was available on your phone or computer? Day One 2 journal is an app that allows you to keep a digital record of your memories and ideas.

The app is an updated version of the original journaling app Day One. Day One 2 was rebuilt to include two new features – multiple journals and multiple photos per entry. When you go to create a journal, you can now choose from a variety of colors to use to identify your journal.

Once you have set everything up in the app to your liking, you can simply tap the plus button and add an entry. You can use the app as a media log where you rate and review your favorite movies, books, and albums, or you can use the app as a travel log and capture memories in your journal. You can also use the app as a way to unwind by writing down everything that has happened throughout your day. Day One 2 is a more permanent way to journal, because your digital thumbprint will never fade like a lead pencil.

Day One 2 Journal has it’s own sync service called Day One Sync that acts similarly to Dropbox and iCloud. As the website states, “Creating our own sync solution was based on a long list of critical reasons, but the two most important are reliability and security. Though not the majority of user experience, we just had too many cases of data loss and duplication. We realize how important and precious this data is—it’s imperative this data is never lost and always backed up securely.”

Day One 2 is available on both IOS devices for $4.99 and Mac computers for $39.99. While the app is considered to be one of the more expensive journaling apps, it is well worth the money and time.

Take a page out of the poet William Wordsworth’s book, purchase the app and “fill your [journal] with the breathings of your heart.”
