Standing at two floors high, Nobu 57 has no intention of concealing itself. Although, upon entering the restaurant, I discovered that it was dimly lit and music was playing but it was not overbearing at all. It was subtle and sophisticated.
We had booked a table for 10.30 but were only seated after 11. Had the food not lived up to the expectations, I could’ve possibly been annoyed but the staff was so pleasant and wonderful that there really was no reason to complain.
A packed bar had people of all ages, mostly working professionals, waiting with drinks and some ordered their starters to the seating around the bar. A quick glance across the drinks menu did make it apparent that alcohol was not cheap here.
For a massive, busy restaurant, Nobu 57’s service was unbeatable. We did not have to wait at all once seated and the food arrived in an orderly manner. It felt like the food was constantly flowing in.
Even if the menu intimidates you because of unfamiliar terms, you can pretty much gather what everything means and for the times you can’t, the servers will help you out. They appeared knowledgeable about the food and helpful.
Here are some of NYMM’s favorite dishes:
Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeño – This dish was very different from what I expect of Japanese Cuisine. Nevertheless, it was a very pleasant surprise! It was the best starter to help me get rid of my skepticism regarding raw fish, purely based on the unprecedented taste!
Rock Shrimp Tempura – My personal favorite! The dish is not only surprisingly large and filling but the shrimps are coated in a creamy sauce. The salad dressing is tangy and together, it feels like heaven in your mouth.
Black Cod Miso – Tender and soft, the black cod is coated with Miso in such a way that it does not have an overpowering taste. The fish melts right in your mouth.
Bigeye and Bluefin Toro Tartar with Caviar – A+ for presentation. This raw fish with Caviar comes in a small bowl resting on top of a large bowl covered in ice.
Overall, the dishes were beautifully presented and their temperatures were controlled so that the customer eats it at its optimum taste. Which explains why Nobu 57 does not have take away or delivery options. Regardless of slightly steep pricing, if the food feels worth every penny I think the restaurant is earning its reputation fair and square.
