There is no denying the rapidly growing momentum for Chloe x Halle, the R&B sister duo who are already being dubbed “Beyonce protégés” and the “Future of R&B” at the young ages of 20 and 21—eldest sister Chloe will be turning 22 this July.
These two got their start early too, first working with Radio Disney way back in 2012 when both sisters were still kids. But their big break was yet to come.
“So, wait, why are they being connected to Beyonce?” you may ask. Well, it’s not another case of fans attaching legends to their faves to build hype. In fact, after Chloe and Halle went viral for their cover of Beyonce’s “Pretty Hurts”, Queen Bey actually saw the cover and reached out to the rising stars herself.
It’s only up from there. In 2015, Beyonce gave her official stamp of approval by signing the sisters to her label, Parkwood Entertainment. They were then able to release music under their new label home, including their EP Sugar Symphony and studio album The Kids Are Alright. Chloe and Halle were able to push themselves further into the spotlight when they were featured in Beyonce’s LEMONADE visual album and opened for the icon’s concerts.
That’s not all. You may have also seen these two take part in the Disney Family Singalong this year, where they performed a cover of “Almost There” from The Princess and the Frog, and Halle is still playing the lead role in the live-action Little Mermaid!
There’s no denying the sisters’ growth, both in popularity and artistry. And although they are young, this only fuels their passion for touching on important issues they see as they grow. When talking about their debut studio album with Parkwood Entertainment, Halle says, “For me, our music, we like to make a reflection of everything that’s going on around us in our own lives, and what we see in social media.”
Earlier this month, Chloe x Halle released their newest single “Do It” in preparation for their new album this summer. The song is like pure honey to the ears, and the music video is fitting. At NYMM, we are always willing to support women in music, and believe me when I say Chloe x Halle should be on all of our radars.
Chloe x Halle will drop their new album, Ungodly Hour, on June 5th. Get ready to put it on your summer playlist!
