Reading is a magical experience that allows you to escape from your current life and experience a whole other world. Whether you read for fun or for school, books can take you on a journey without ever having to leave the comfort of your own home. In our busy lives, we sometimes forget or don’t have time to read. Perhaps you even tried to make a New Year’s resolution about reading more books. So, how do we remember to pick up a book and read after a long day at work or school? Bookout is a new app that will keep you on track with your reading goals.
The app, Bookout, treats reading as if it is physical exercise, which is true if you consider reading to be sort of like an exercise for your brain. Bookout will send you daily reminders to read, keep track of how much you have read and for how long, and help you set up reading goals and keep them.
To get started with the app, find a book you would like to read. Next, enter the title of the book, author, and number of pages. The app will allow you to enter the ISBN code or search for the book online. You can even add in a picture of the cover of the book you choose to read. Once you find the book, start reading. The app will track how much and for how long you read everyday.
Bookout helps you set up either a monthly or a yearly goal – or both. You can also set up a daily reminder to read everyday. The monthly goal will ask you how many hours you would like to read in the next 30 days. The yearly goal is only available, however, for those who would like to upgrade.
While reading, you can record thoughts and ideas that pop into your head, or you can add in your favorite quotes from the book. Reading stats, available in the app, will update you on your progress with each book. The more you read, the more achievements you unlock and the more you know.
Bookout is free and available on IOS devices. In order to receive more features in the app, you will have to upgrade to Bookout Pro for $4.99; however, there is a lot you can do with the app for free.
Books are like friends in that they help you work through issues you might be having in your own life. Every book has a little bit, or a lot, of knowledge to offer its reader, you just have to be willing to take the time, sit down, and read.
As Ernest Hemingway said, “There is no friend as loyal as a book.”
