Summer is quickly approaching, so it’s time to uncover your convertible and finally get it back out on the road. For those of you who don’t own a convertible or a sports car (which is most of you so don’t worry), you don’t have to miss out on the fun!
You’ve heard countless songs and seen countless movies that glamorize the excitement of cruising in a drop top during the summertime. There’s something iconic about letting your hair down and riding off into the sunset- something everyone should experience. So for date night this summer, consider renting a convertible or exotic car to take a road trip or long drive in.
If you are 25 years old or older, renting a car will be no problem for you. If you are between the ages of 21 to 24, some rental companies may charge you an extra daily fee because statistically, drivers under 25 get into more accidents. This fee usually averages to be an extra $25 a day, but compare fees and restrictions of different rental companies to get the best possible rate that you can. In most states, unfortunately, rental companies will not rent to anyone 18 to 20 years old.
Browse and choose which car to rent with your partner (unless you want it to be a surprise of course). Many rental companies have Ford Mustang Convertibles among their fleet. If none of the convertibles available are to your liking, browse the company’s exotic car section. Renting a Maserati or a Porsche could be just as, if not more, exciting!
Once you’ve booked a car, decide whether you want to plan a road trip with an end destination or if you’d rather just take a long drive. If you’re in one of the eight states that the famous Route 66 goes through, take a ride down the iconic highway.
If you’re in the northwest part of the country, check out the Historic Columbia River Highway in Oregon, the first planned scenic roadway in the United States.
If you’re on the East Coast, the Acadia National Byway in Maine, which was designated as an All-American Highway, will be sure to take your breath away. Even cruising city streets at night can be more appealing in a convertible. The lights, the skyscrapers, and the energy of the street life is there for endless entertainment.
One of the best ways to fully enjoy your trip is to make a playlist of songs before you leave. This way you can take in the scenic routes without having to look at your phone the whole time. Who doesn’t love the idea of singing classic songs at the top of your lungs while taking in the awe-inspiring sights?
Finally, be prepared for whatever you may encounter on your road trip. Hats and scarves may be essential. A picnic basket loaded with delicious food for impromptu stops would be a great idea. Most importantly, perhaps, is to leave the schedule at home.
When you and your date are cruising in a convertible, and you see a sign that says “Scenic Overlook Ahead,” don’t take that as a suggestion. Stop and take in that view. You don’t even have to get out of the car!
