LiveSAFE Resources is a nonprofit based out of Marietta, Georgia that has been serving its community for over 100 years. You may have known the organization by another name, “the YWCA” (Young Women’s Christian Association), but in this past January it changed its name to better reflect the mission and the services it provides.
The name “YWCA” may give off the impression that the facility is just a gym, daycare, and community pool, but in reality it is much more. Also critical is the fact that LiveSAFE
LiveSAFE aims to provide support and resources to victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault, and elder abuse, but is open to accommodating victims of other situations in the future. That is also why the name change was appropriate.
“There are many reasons why we changed our name, but the most important is to make it easier for those who need us to find us,” said Holly Tuchman, the CEO and Executive Director of liveSAFE. “Its flexibility also accommodates the future growth of our services and programs.”
LiveSAFE’s main goal is to help victims and survivors live safe, no matter what that entails. Whether a victim wishes to escape from their current situation, file a court order, or execute another type of safety plan, LiveSAFE helps get them all of the resources needed to do so.
LiveSAFE offers different programs for victims of sexual assault, elder abuse, and domestic violence. For example, housing and emergency shelters for domestic violence victims, as well as medical forensic exams for victims of sexual assault, are provided. There are also support groups, both group and one-on-one counseling, and play therapy sessions for children. Legal assistance is offered to all, and, perhaps best of all, every service patrons can access through LiveSAFE is free.
LiveSAFE’s website provides important information on domestic abuse, sexual assault, elder abuse, and stalking. Things like warning signs and the effects, myths, and facts of each topic are discussed, and people who feel that they are experiencing any of these issues are urged to seek services through LiveSAFE or to call the 24/7 crisis hotline at 770-427-3390.
LiveSAFE’s efforts are much needed. In a typical year in the state of Georgia, over 100
In 2016, LiveSAFE was proud to report that it housed over 225 individuals in the organization’s domestic violence shelters. It also assisted more than 1,850 individuals through its legal advocacy office and provided more than 2,600 hours of counseling to survivors, victims, and their families.
LiveSAFE is dedicated to facilitating a safe and supportive community for all and to providing respectful and judgement-free care to anyone in need of assistance. You can get involved by donating, volunteering, or joining a committee of people who represent LiveSAFE.
