It’s summer, so your typical bar experience has the opportunity to get a whole lot better. Add a stunning view, some fresh air, and maybe even an Instagram worthy skyline. With summertime comes the reopening of all the rooftops that were closed in the winter, and with rooftop bars comes a more romantic date night.
Rooftop bars are increasing in popularity, popping up all over the country. There seems to be a trendy rooftop bar in almost every block in Manhattan nowadays, but they’re not just limited to New York. Numerous rooftop bars lie on the top tiers of hotels and offer a stunning view of whatever city you may be in.
Nothing sets the mood more than an outdoor patio with great mood lighting. Some rooftop bars feature glass-walled fireplaces or gas-fueled fire pits for those cool summer nights while, others offer their guests complimentary fleece blankets to ward off the chill or block the breeze.
Depending on where you are, you may want to choose between having a lunch or dinner date depending on whether a daytime or nighttime view would be better.
If you are in a place like Miami or San Francisco, which have moderate climates, you may have been lucky enough to enjoy rooftop amenities year-round. A nighttime dinner might be better for these locations in order to escape the heat. If you time it just right, you could begin your night with a beautiful view of the sunset. If it’s a view of the blue ocean waters and sailboats you’re seeking, however, make it an afternoon lunch date.
Juvia sits atop a parking garage in South Beach and has views of the entire city of Miami. It also features an impressive vertical garden.
Some of the best rooftop views in San Francisco are at El Techo, the Latin American styled bar, located atop the Lolinda restaurant.
If you’re in New York, you may want to experience the best views the city has to offer. If this is the case, atop the Pod 39 Hotel in Midtown Manhattan is a rooftop bar with a romantic feel that has views of the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. If you want to be outside but you don’t necessarily care about the view, then consider checking out Gallow Green in Chelsea. The dreamy ambiance of this bar may make you forget you’re even in a city due to its abundance of lush greenery.
Some rooftop bars may be the best to hit right as the sun is going down. Soda Bar, located atop the Nylo Hotel in Dallas, offers a panoramic view of the city and an infinity pool, the perfect location from which to watch the sunset.
Phoenix is another amazing place to take in the sunset where you and your date can witness the mountains bathed in colors ranging from red to pink to orange. The Lustre Rooftop Bar at Hotel Palomar in Phoenix is worth checking out!
With summer approaching it’s time to step out of the confines of your regular restaurants and bars and head to the roof!
