Talented Duo Become the First Women Crew to Call NFL Game

The NFL continues to push the envelope when it comes to empowering women in sports. Hannah Storm and Andrea Kremer became the first women broadcasting duo to commentate an NFL game when they called the September 27th match-up between the LA Rams and the Minnesota Vikings.

The announcement came last Tuesday via ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Storm and Kremer join the likes of Beth Mowins and Gayle Sierens as women breaking through the NFL’s glass ceiling.

Kremer is a storied NFL Network correspondent. One of the best-known sports broadcasters in the country, she has covered twenty-five Super Bowls, the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup Finals, and NCAA March Madness.

Additionally, Kremer was presented with the Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award for more than 30 years of contribution to professional football.

Storm, on the other hand, is a seasoned news and sports anchor who has covered the PGA, MLB, NFL, International Tennis, and the Olympics. She broke into the national scene by becoming the first woman host of CNN Sports Tonight in 1989.

Between them, the pair has an astounding seventy years of experience calling professional sports games, making themselves phenomenal role models for women everywhere.

And such women are vital. They inspire others to follow their paths into professional sports, an industry that has historically been dominated by men. A study conducted by the Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport showed that 88.3 percent of sports reporters are men. Another study conducted by The Women’s Media Center found that men contribute 65 percent of evening broadcast material.

For those who are worried this is a one-time event, don’t worry: the pair is slated for 11 games over the remainder of this season!

Despite their lengthy careers, the importance of this event has not escaped the reporters. And neither one could think of a better partner for this historic moment.

“I can’t imagine embarking upon this new role with anyone better than Andrea,” Storm said. “A lifelong friend with Pro Football Hall of Fame credentials, she is the perfect partner. Together we’re looking forward to offering a new option for Prime members on Thursday nights and I’m excited to get to work!”

“Teaming up with Hannah and Amazon for this is truly special,” Kremer added. “Hannah is a brilliant journalist and she has been a friend for many years. With decades of experience as storytellers, we will be bringing a different voice and viewpoint to covering the game of football.”

Here’s to hoping the NFL and its broadcast partners continue to build on this achievement in the coming years.
